Radio shows by Lois Richter

This is a place to listen to some of the radio shows I have made.
The full archives (over 15 years) are on KDRT.org and will be there indefinitely.

“That’s Life” — hosted by Lois on KDRT since 2015.

The Radio Guy. The Video Guy. The Voice-over Guy. They are all the same guy — Mitchell Hill.

And, I’ll add, a Good Guy to have as a friend!
(Also a guy to ask to be a Guest Host on the next show.   He said YES!)

Mitch is a mainstay on the Office Hours panel; sometimes being the “Reader” — the person who reads each question for the show.

And I guess that makes sense because Mitch has a very good, well-trained voice and knows how to use it.

Today’s show is most a ‘getting to know Mitch’ show.
With lots of voices thrown in.
Or thrown around.
Or just thrown.

Expect to be …
Well, just expect the unexpected.

Ever wonder who’s behind the voice on “That’s Life”?   Here’s your chance to listen to some stories from Lois.

Guest-Host Mitch Hill interviews Guest-Guest Lois Richter!

On a previous show, Lois got many stories out of Mitchell.
This time HE draws out many stories from HER.

Both have done radio shows; both grew up in the 1970s; and both are part of the After Hours / Office Hours community.

Oh, yeah; and both like to talk.
A LOT!
And crack jokes…

— or Rabbi David as he is often called —
is an accomplished spiritual leader, a singer/songwriter, a Jewish futurist, a social activist, an award-winning Jewish edutainer, and your “Torah Tech Guy”.   He’s also the “Rock-n-Roll Rabbi”.

AND he has published several books.

AND he is a speaker/presenter both online and in person.

Most importantly, he is a friend and a wonderful human being!!

Join your “That’s Life” host, Lois Richter, as she get the story from David Paskin.   And then another story.   And another.

These two can really talk!!!   Hope you enjoy the show.

This long-time media man has retired.

Well, sort of.
What he actually did was create a new career teaching company execs how to be more effective in their in-person presentations and on-line meetings.
And, yes, he wrote a book about it.

We met on Office Hours and After Hours.   Ray has also come to many of the rehearsals for “Birding With Lois” when we started practicing in February.

In the course of being a stand-in for not-yet-acquired panelists, Ray Franklin got to pose questions and get answers.

Then he started upgrading his systems for birding in his back yard — new birdfeeder, new understanding of some of his feathered neighbors, and a new interest in the life around their Florida lake-side  home.

Lots of rambling stories in this episode.
Lots of laughter also.
Hope you enjoy!

Another fascinating story from a friend on After Hours.

A self-proclaimed “dungeon master”, John Puett leads a very active adventurous life while sitting down.

“Dungeons and Dragons” is his game of choice and he not only plays D&D, but also designs, hosts, and teaches it.

Join his Discord server or view his YouTube channel to learn more about the game.

John does a lot more than play games, though.   He has a company that does “cyber security”.
Not sure what that means?
Lois wasn’t either, so listen to this episode to find out.

Another very interesting fellow that I met on After Hours is Tom Ferguson.

He is retired from working for the city of Phoenix as a system creator, studio maker, and IT wizard.  (Well, that’s not the word HE used, but to me it seems like wizardry!)

The Ferguson family moved to Arizona when Tom was 10, and he has never found reason to leave.

This is a fascinating interview sparked with bits of tech info and CUTE CATS!

Cats? Why cats? Well, it turns out that Tom Ferguson has been a photographer for a long time and some of his favorite subjects are his cats.

This fascinating man has done so many wonderful things, we’d need a month to even summarize them!

In this hour-long episode we touch on a few — hot air ballooning, finding minerals by looking at vegetation from space, how wind moves over mountain peaks and what those aerial waves and ridges can be used for, changes in vision after cataract surgery, setting up a studio, teaching people to fly (motor planes, gliders, remote control planes, and drones), Vancouver BC Canada, lots of tech, and philosophy.

Although Lois met Ray Maxwell thru After Hours, Ray has many other years of broadcast experience — radio, tv, podcasting, web streaming, and Youtube.

Rupert McRae !!!!!   ‘Nuf said.

Well, actually, that’s not enough.

Rupert McRae is one of the great panelists on “Office Hours”, which is where Lois met him.   He has had a long, productive career in other people’s companies and is now his own boss.

It’s too complicated to try and describe everything in this summary.   Better you should just listen to this show.

In late February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine.

One Quaker’s response was to start a Daily Meeting for Worship to Pray for Peace in Ukraine — on zoom and open to everyone in the world.

Why did she do that?   How did it happen?   Is it still going?

Julie Harlow from California is that “one Quaker” and today we talk about her involvement with Quakers, Ukraine, and “Friends House Moscow”.

What different kinds of Quaker are there in the world and how have they responded to the war in Ukraine?

Julie helps us understand.

KDRT’s Hawaiian expert, Beth Post, is today’s guest.

Beth’s radio show “Na Mele O Hawaii” is one of the most popular on this station!

And the story of how it came to be and what changes it has made in her family’s is fascinating.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is 100 years old.

Noted historian and retired Yolo County Archivist, Mel Russell has created an exhibit about how that monument was created and telling the story of “our boys” (WWI soldiers from Yolo County).

But MOST of this episode is about WW1 — how it started, who was on which side, how it ended, who fought where/when — and about the changes WW1 caused in America and the world.

Today we are still dealing with issues which started back then.

The war started in 1914, the US entered in 1917, and we were bringing home soldiers in 1920-1922.

This is a fascinating hour, ending with some music of the time.

In August 2021, Lois stayed in San Diego (California) for 2 weeks.

Lots of great things there to enjoy, including walking in Balboa Park!
There were many beautiful flowers — both in the Botanical House and in people’s front yards. So Lois took pictures.

After getting back home, Lois asked Don Shor (a plant expert and former resident of San Diego) what each plant was and if she could grow those lovely San Diego flowers here in Davis.

The answer — as usual — was, “It depends.”

In this case, “It depends upon which species it is and whether or not that particular species can withstand cold.”

We also talked about why there are so many dead tree stumps on the San Diego hillsides and why there were dead orchards and vineyards along the freeway driving thru the southern San Joaquin Valley.
